A while ago, we took a Saturday and went to IKEA to get some much needed furniture. If you didn’t know, IKEA furniture comes in a series of cardboard boxes packaged for transportation. When you get it home, you are endeared with the task of putting the furniture together using little tools designed for lab monkeys. Of the things we purchased, we chose to put together the IKEA Hemnes 6 drawer dresser first (it seemed the easiest). Below is a brief description of putting together of the 6 drawer dresser.

The Room Before:

As you can see, the bedroom was a mess. Yes, the little plastic 3 drawer thing is one of the places that we stored clothes.  We NEEDED furniture!  Obviously, we had to do some cleaning of that corner to get it ready to put the 6 drawer dresser together.  If you look at the foot of the bed, those are the type boxes that the IKEA furniture comes in ready to assemble.

Assembly:

Generally, it just takes a little patience and a little bit of hammering to get a piece of IKEA furniture put together.

Almost done:

At this point, we almost had the 6 drawer dresser put together. The ‘large’ parts were put together. All that remained was the tedious putting together of the 6 drawers.

Done:

Here is the finished product of our roughly 2 hours of work. We think it fits pretty good in that corner. On the right side of the picture you can see another little plastic container. We will be replacing it with a full length Hemnes mirror to be able to check ourselves out every morning before work. We will try to keep you up to date regarding our ‘updating’ of the house and the IKEA furniture assembly adventures.
